Start by visiting the front desk to verify your age and provide a valid form of identification. We will then provide you with your wristband, which you will use to activate the taps.
Find an available tap that you want to try and hold wristband against the tap to dispense.
Once the tap is activated, pour as much or as little as you want. If you’re not sure which beverage to try, grab some small tasting glasses so you can sample a variety of drinks.
When you’re ready to head out, simply return your wristband to the front desk where you’ll pay your balance based on the amount you poured.

Welcome to The Thirsty Cow Taphouse! Owners Todd & Holly Butenhoff are excited to have you visit Door County’s only Self-Pour Taphouse. Whether you are a Door County local or just visiting the Door County area we are happy to have you. Todd & Holly were first introduced to the self -pour concept at The Dirty Dog Taphaus, during a trip to New Glarus, with their children, in August 2022. The family fell in love with the laid back, relaxing atmosphere. An idea was born and the search for the perfect location didn’t take long. Door County has always been a special place for Holly, having grown up in Green Bay, her family vacationed here every summer. Todd originally from Alden, MN was introduced to the beauty of Door County while dating Holly. The tradition continued as Todd and Holly started bringing their boys to the area. Tyler’s first trip was to Washington Island at the age of one and Cody’s first visit was a fall camping trip to Peninsula State Park at 5 months. Todd and Holly feel blessed to now call Ellison Bay home. Their boys are now grown. Tyler makes his home in Janesville, WI and works in Madison. Cody is currently a student at Drake University, in Des Moines, IA.
